What Eeda does, and what it does not do

What we do

Eeda lists local pros. A person at Eeda reads every new pro’s page before it goes live, to make sure it is complete and does not break our rules. That is a look at the page, not a look into the pro.

We show you what each pro told us about their license, insurance, and business, with the date they told us. We link you to your state’s own license lookup so you can see the official record yourself. Every pro who has claimed their page pays the same price, and there is no paid tier for a better spot. A person at Eeda reads every review, and looks at every before & after photo pair, before it appears. Every pro’s page carries a “Tips before you hire” box near the top of the page, and the app reminds you the first time you tap Call, Text or Email that calls, texts and emails happen on your own phone and that you hire at your own risk. When you book a pro in the app, the pro sees your street address and phone number only once they confirm the booking. When you post a job, pros see your city, never your name, number or email, and a person reads a member’s jobs before pros see them until one has been approved. We don’t post — or we take down — pages, reviews, jobs and quotes that break our rules. If five different people whose Eeda accounts are at least a week old report the same pro’s page within 30 days, it is pulled from search until we have looked at it.

What we do not do

We do not check, confirm, or guarantee a pro’s license, insurance, bond, or any other claim. Everything you see in that part of a pro’s page came from the pro, and a pro’s before & after photos are their own — we do not check who did the work. We do not run background checks on anyone, and we never have. We do not send anyone to your home, supervise any work, set any price, or take a cut of any job. We do not check that a pro turned up for a booking, and we do not decide who was right about a no-show — that mark is a record between the customer and the pro. We do not offer a guarantee, a warranty, or a money-back program, and we do not settle arguments between a customer and a pro. If a job goes wrong, your claim is with the pro and with the pro’s insurer.

Emergencies: fire, a gas smell, flooding, an electrical hazard, or anyone’s safety at risk — call 911 or your utility company first. Eeda is a directory: nobody at Eeda answers a call or sends anyone out, and a booking request can wait up to eight hours for an answer. Never wait on one in an emergency.

Before you hire: a five-minute checklist

  1. Open the license line on the pro’s page and tap “Check this license with the state.” It takes about a minute, and it is the official record. Make sure the license is active and is the right kind for your job.
  2. Look at the certificate of insurance. Check the date it was provided and the dates on the certificate itself. If the pro entered an expiration date, we show it as they stated it — we do not check it against the document. Once the month of that stated date has ended, the pro’s card and page no longer show “Insured” or the certificate, and we remind the pro to upload a new one; that comes from the pro’s own date, not from a check. Certificates can also lapse without the pro updating the date, and we do not catch that for you. If you see no certificate, or want to be sure, ask the pro for their current one before work starts.
  3. Read the reviews. Every review on Eeda is posted by a member whose email address was confirmed first, one review per pro, under rules that say it must be their own experience with that pro. A person at Eeda reads every review before it appears, and we don’t post — or we take down — reviews that break the rules. We do not check that a reviewer really dealt with the pro. Read them the way you would read any review: several together, and with the reply the pro may have posted.
  4. Ask a friend. If a pro’s page shows “Your friends and this pro”, those are friends of yours who added that pro to their own list, in their own words — ask them how it went. A friend’s save is their opinion, not a check by Eeda: it tells you who to ask, not that the pro is licensed or insured, so do the other steps too.
  5. Get at least two prices for anything large. Posting a job from the “Post a job” card on the My Home tab is one way to collect several quotes — but a quote is a rough price from the pro, not a contract, and it can change once they see the work.
  6. Get it in writing before anyone starts: the work, the price, what happens if the price changes, and when it will be done. Many states require a home-improvement contractor to give you a written contract.
  7. Booked a time in the app? Be there, or cancel in the app as early as you can so the pro is not left waiting. A confirmed booking holds a time; it is not a contract — still agree the price in writing.
  8. Never pay the whole price up front, however good a quote looks. Be wary of anyone who wants cash only, wants a large deposit before work starts, pressures you to decide today, or turns up unasked after a storm.
  9. Be there, or have an adult you trust be there, while work is happening. Put away valuables, medication, and documents.
  10. Pay in a way that leaves a record. Eeda never handles the money, so nothing about your payment goes through us.
  11. If something feels wrong, it is fine to stop and say no. You are never obliged to let anyone into your home.

How to report something

Tap “Report a problem” on any pro’s page in the app, under the “Tips before you hire” box. Pros can report a lead, and homeowners a quote, from the “…” button on it. On a member’s page (on the Friends tab, tap their face, then the card with their name), tap the “…” button, then “Report this person” — or Block, which keeps them out of your Eeda. To report a review, email support@geteeda.com with what happened and when, and tell us if anyone is in danger. If you can no longer find the member, email support@geteeda.com with their name and what happened. If five different people whose Eeda accounts are at least a week old report the same page within 30 days, it comes out of search automatically while we look at it.

If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 first, then tell us.

Why we do not say a pro is “checked”

Anyone can print a badge. What actually protects you is the state’s own record, and it is public and free. So instead of telling you we looked, we show you exactly what the pro told us, when they told us, and a direct link to the state office that holds the real answer. It takes you about a minute, and you end up knowing something rather than trusting something.
